Projects
Strategic Plan for the Charlie Lake
Watershed
Implementing the
Strategic Plan
"A Long-Term
Strategic Plan for the Improvement of Water Quality in the Charlie Lake
Watershed" by Todd French & Barry Booth
was finalized in 2004. The findings
and recommendations from the report have initiated projects in
several areas.

Agricultural
• We are coordinating projects
with environmentally aware local farmers to improve stream crossings,
enhance riparian strips and develop better water management on Coffee
and Stoddard Creeks. • Projects are expected to have worthwhile
impacts on farming efficiency, wildlife habit, conservation and
aesthetics. • The CLCS is coordinating support
from: -Prairie Farm Rehabilitation
Administration -Peace River Regional
District -Industrial
supporters -individuals and local
businesses

• CLCS sponsored the Annual
Charlie Lake Spring Cleanup with volunteers collecting litter around the
lake. • Workshops and educational events were
planned
• CLCS
has spearheaded cooperative efforts with this key economic sector to
reduce environmental impacts of industry operations.
• Initiatives to reduce soil
erosion from oil and gas sites were promoted with the support of
the BC Oil and Gas Commission (OGC) through their Science and Community
Environmental Knowledge (SCEK) Fund in 2005-2006.
• Allan Blair has been Project Manager overseeing
the efforts of UNBC student, Lindsay Sahaydak in the completion of "Oil
and Gas Well /Facility Site Erosion Management" Project. The final report has been released by the OGC in
2006/2007.

Transportation
• The CLCS has been actively
involved with other agencies to reduce and remediate negatives impacts
of transportation within the watershed. Particular focus was on
road stream crossings.
Capacity
Building
• The Society will continue to
participate in scientific research, monitoring and planning programs.
• We will continue development of initiatives supporting the
Strategic Environmental Plan for the Charlie Lake Watershed. • CLCS
has funded university students to further our activities and
develop our capacity for implementing components of the Strategic
Environmental Plan.
